Terms of Service
1. Acceptance of terms
By creating an account or using SpellRoo (“SpellRoo”, “we”, “our service”), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you are a parent, guardian or teacher setting up an account for a student, you agree on their behalf. If you do not agree, please don’t use the app.
SpellRoo is an educational app for spelling practice, mock competitions, streaks, rewards and multiplayer matches, designed for Australian students in Years 1–12.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- Accounts for children under the age of digital consent in their region are expected to be set up or supervised by a parent, guardian or teacher.
- You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details private and for activity on your account.
- Schools and teachers may create accounts for classroom use, subject to their own school policies.
- You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
3. User responsibilities and fair play
- Be respectful. No bullying, harassment, hate speech or offensive content.
- No cheating — for example, using scripts, external tools or copy/paste to answer spelling questions.
- Do not misuse multiplayer features (Versus, private rooms, leaderboards) to harass or expose other users.
- Do not try to identify other users beyond the in-app display name shown.
4. Educational and competition content
SpellRoo offers spelling practice, points, streaks, Versus matches and leaderboards as learning tools. Results, scores and rankings are for guidance and motivation only. They are not certified educational assessments and do not guarantee any specific outcome in real spelling competitions or exams.
5. Premium features and purchases
Some features may be offered as optional purchases (for example, avatar changes, cosmetic upgrades, or access to private rooms). Availability and pricing may vary by region, platform and over time. Purchases unlock the features described at the point of purchase and are subject to our Refund Policy.
6. Intellectual property
SpellRoo, including its name, logo, app design, word lists, artwork, and software, is owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use SpellRoo for personal, educational use. You may not copy, resell, redistribute, reverse engineer, or create derivative works from the app without our written permission.
7. Prohibited activities
- Attempting to hack, probe, overload or interfere with the service.
- Scraping, bulk downloading, or re-hosting our content.
- Uploading malware, spam, or unlawful content.
- Attempting to re-identify, dox or contact other users off-platform without their consent.
- Using the service for any activity that is illegal in your jurisdiction.
8. Third-party services
SpellRoo relies on third-party services for hosting, analytics, authentication, text-to-speech, payments and app distribution. Where you interact with those services (for example, an app store or payment processor), their own terms and privacy notices also apply.
9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
SpellRoo is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, and we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under mandatory local consumer law.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us (if any) for the service in the 12 months before the claim arose.
10. Termination and suspension
We may suspend or terminate access to accounts that materially breach these Terms, put other users at risk, or misuse the service. Where reasonable, we will let you know and give you a chance to respond. You can stop using SpellRoo at any time and request account deletion.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will notify users through the app or by email before the changes take effect. Continued use after that date means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are intended to be governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where we are established. Final governing law and dispute-resolution wording must be set by a local lawyer before publication.
13. Contact
See the support contact inside the app for questions about these Terms. See also our Privacy Policy and Refund Policy.
